Being based centrally in Buchanan means most calls, wherever they come from in the county, aren’t a long haul for us.
Two Berrien County Health Department offices cover permitting and inspections here: the main office in Benton Harbor and a Niles Division office that serves the eastern part of the county. Either one issues the permits, site evaluations, and approvals a new system or a major repair requires, and we work with both regularly. Michigan leaves this entirely to the county level, so whichever office covers your property has the final say.

Does a property near Lake Michigan need a different septic system than one further inland?
Often, yes. Sandy dune soil drains quickly but frequently sits close to a naturally high water table, which can rule out a standard buried system in favor of a raised or mound-style design. Inland properties with a deeper water table usually have more flexibility.
